Orlando Pirates striker Sameehg Doutie is playing for his new New Zealand club Manukau United in only his second appearance since retiring.
The 33-year-old announced his retirement in early 2022 after he was unable to keep a club in South Africa after playing professional football for more than 10 years. He has won five trophies in his career, including two Telkom Knockouts.
He played for Ajax Cape Town (Cape Town Spurs), Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits and started his career in Sweden and India, where he won the Indian Super League in 2016 with Atletico de Kolkata.
At the start of last month, the newspaper reported in its 98th edition that Doutie was wanted in New Zealand and signed for relegation-fighting Manukau in the Northern League.
A few weeks ago, a deal was struck with the Cape Town-born player making his debut on May 13 in Manurewa’s 3-0 win. Last weekend, Doutie scored his first goal for New Zealand, which was his side’s opening goal in a 3-2 win over Western Springs AFC.
Manukau is second from bottom in the Northern League, with only five points from ten games so far. However, Doutie had reason to be proud when his goal was voted Goal of the Week.
