good afternoon.

I would like to thank all the attendees who have provided an opportunity for me to stand in this pulpit. Let us give thanks to God for the permission so we are able to follow this great event.

Drug is a term that is so popular in Indonesia and the world. In Indonesian, we know drugs as Narkoba which stands for narcotic, psychotropic and addictive. Drugs are commonly known as shabu and ecstasy. Both substances are widely used by middle and high school students. However, many adults also consume it, because we often see on television that adults are arrested by the police because they are using ecstasy.

Drug manufacturers realize that consumers do not like the high prices. Therefore, in order to promote the drug wider, then a lot of low-grade heroin is produced. Even though it is known as heroin, it has a lower price, and may also give the drug user a death effect.

The presence of drugs that have a low price can be seen in many places. At the first time, we encounter drug users only in nightclubs or discotheques, now they are increasingly widespread. You can find low-grade heroin even in isolated villages. It proves that drug users continue to increase every year and this is a terrible fact.

Of course, a very broad spread of drug impact on all circles of life. Currently, the youth with the teen years are wasted their life by taking drugs. They use drugs for many reasons. Most young people who use drugs are teenagers who don’t get the attention of their parents. Somewhere in Indonesia, the data showed that three out of ten young people are drug users. Meanwhile, the data for all of the areas in Indonesia shows that from the 50 Indonesians at least one person has ever tasted the drug.

A study conducted by the ILO or the International Labor Organization said that about 4 percent of drug users in Indonesia are juveniles under the age of 17 years. It is a fact that we should ponder. Indonesia is a big country and has the potential to become a developed country. But how can Indonesia be a developed country if its young people use drugs?

In fact, several teens were involved in the manufacture and trade of drugs even when they were 13 or 15 years old. The fact is reinforced by the statement of the National Narcotics Coordinating Agency which revealed that Indonesian drug users numbered about 7,000 from junior high school students, more than 10,000 from senior high school students, and about 800 from elementary school students. The data is very poor and I personally would not be able to imagine if the drug use continues to rise again and again.

Besides the affordable prices, what really makes students in Indonesia easy to get drugs? People who use drugs usually want to have fun or escape from the problems of life. Most likely, students in Indonesia use drugs because they are ostracized by their families or their families are in broken homes. Thus, they are reluctant to stay at home and prefer to have fun using drugs.

Besides those reasons, students can use drugs easily because a number of merchants are close to the schools to deceive, to coerce, or to give the drugs freely to the students around the school. When the students are addicted to drugs, then the merchants will not allow them to get free. They have to buy with the high prices.

All the facts that I have given you, have shown that the drug is very close to the lives of us, especially the young people. In fact, when people consume drugs consistently, the brain function can be damaged and certainly exacerbate the future.

Let us keep ourselves and our families from illegal drugs. When you have a teenager, then pay attention to their physical and spiritual needs as well. Never give them the opportunity to use drugs.

Those are the facts and the suggestions that I can tell, I apologize if there are mistakes in speaking. I thank you for your attention.

Meaning :

Good afternoon.

I thank all the audience who have given me the opportunity to stand on this pulpit. Let us give thanks to God Almighty because with the permission He has given, we are able to participate in this event properly.

Drugs is a term that is so popular in Indonesia and the world. In Indonesian, we know Narkoba as an abbreviation for narcotics, psychotropic and addictive. Drugs are commonly known as methamphetamine and ecstasy. Both of these substances are widely used by junior and senior high school students. Nevertheless, many adults also consume it, because we often see on television that even respectable adults are caught by the police using ecstasy drugs.

Drug manufacturers realize that consumers do not like high prices. Therefore, in order to promote drugs more broadly, a lot of low-grade heroin is produced. Known as putaw. Even though it is cheap, putaw can have a fatal effect on drug users.

You can see the existence of cheap drugs now in many places. When in the past we encountered drug users in nightclubs or discotheques, now it is more widespread. You can find low grade heroin even in remote villages. This proves that drug users continue to increase every year and this is a terrible fact.

Of course, the very wide distribution of drugs has an impact on all circles. Currently, youths in their twenties are wasting their lives by consuming illegal drugs. They use drugs for various reasons. Many say that young people who use drugs are young people who don’t get attention from their parents. Somewhere in Indonesia, data shows that three out of ten young people are drug users. Meanwhile, data for all of Indonesia shows that out of 50 Indonesians there is at least one person who has tasted drugs.

A study conducted by the ILO or the International Labor Organization stated that around 4 percent of drug users in Indonesia are teenagers under 17 years of age. This is a fact we should reflect on. Indonesia is a big country and has the potential to become a developed country. But how can Indonesia become a developed country if young people actually use drugs?

In fact, some youths become involved in producing and trading drugs when they are 13 to 15 years old. This fact is reinforced by the statement by the Head of the National Narcotics Coordinating Board which revealed that drug users and illegal drugs in Indonesia number around 7,000 junior high school students, more than 10,000 high school students and around 800 elementary school students. The data is very concerning and I can’t imagine if drug use continues to increase.

Apart from affordable prices, what exactly makes it easy for students in Indonesia to get drugs? People who use illegal drugs usually want to have fun or escape from life’s problems. Most likely, students in Indonesia who use drugs because they are ostracized by their families or families have problems that have a negative impact on their psychology. So, they feel reluctant to stay at home and choose to have fun using drugs.

In addition to these reasons, it was reported that a number of traffickers sold drugs around schools by deceiving, forcing, or giving these drugs for free to students around the school. Once students are addicted to drugs, the dealers don’t allow them to get them for free. The students had to buy at a high price.

All the facts that I have given you have shown that drugs are very closely related to the lives of the younger generation. In fact, when they consume drugs, their brain function can be damaged and of course worsen the future.

Let’s keep ourselves and our families away from illegal drugs. When you have teenagers, pay close attention to their physical and spiritual needs. Never give them the opportunity to use drugs.

Those are the facts and suggestions that I can convey, I apologize if there are mistakes in my words. I thank you all for your attention.

Hopefully the English speech about drugs above can be useful for you.
