A tribal chief was left furious after he allegedly heard about a relative’s death on social media.
This was after he learned from a friend in Cape Town that one of his relatives had lost his life in a crash on the deadly N2.
Nkosi Mongezi Gobinamba Ndamase, speaking to mourners at a memorial service for the four victims at his home in Ngolo, said it was very painful to learn from the death of a loved one in this way.
The four victims, Mvuzo Mthintweni, 30, a taxi driver, siblings Odwa, 28, and Siphosethu Magoda, 25, both worked for a construction company, and their friend Sanelisiwe Cosa, an educational assistant at Ntililini Middle School in the neighboring village of Sibangweni .
They were reportedly traveling to Mthatha when they met their untimely death on the wet and slippery N2 on 14 May.
Six people died in the impact. The two victims later died in hospital after two Toyota Quantum minibus taxis collided.
A resident of Sibangweni and Cosa’s neighbor, Noxolo Mjuleni, said the victim’s mother was too confused to speak to the media.
She said Cosa, a mother of two, had gone to Mthatha to get her hair done, but failed to return home.
“Hey [her mother] initially thought he might be having a sleepover with friends.
“We only found out he was among those killed when our village chief came to break the news on Tuesday, two days after the accident. He is very ambitious and his unemployed mother pins his hopes on him to raise him up.
